Love is an emotion of intense attraction to, care for, or identification with persons, place(s) or thing(s); a desire to be close to, move and construct its object. This can include love for one's self.
However, love has several different meanings in the English language, from something that gives a little pleasure ("I loved that meal") to something that one would die for (patriotism, pair-bonding). And in contrast to the definition at the top, frequently people use the verb "love" to indicate want or desire for themselves as opposed to for another. For example: "I love ice cream," or even "I love her/him," does not refer to desiring wellness for ice cream, and it may not refer to desiring wellness for her/him, but rather to the desire for ice cream or for her/him felt by the speaker. The word also frequently indicates elevated appreciation or admiration: "I love that artist." Love can describe an intense feeling of affection, an emotion or an emotional state. In ordinary use, it usually refers to interpersonal love. As an experience usually felt by a person for another person, it is commonly considered impossible to describe. Dictionaries tend to define love as deep affection or fondness.[1] In colloquial use, according to polled opinion, the most favoured definitions of love include the words:[2]
1. life - someone or something for which you would give your life.
2. care - someone or something about which you care more than yourself.
3. friendship - favoured interpersonal associations or relationships.
4. union - a synergistic connection, as in the perfect union of two souls.
5. family - people related via common ancestry, religion, or race, etc.
The concept of love, however, is subject to debate. Some deny the existence of love, calling it a recently invented abstraction. Moreover, approximately 13 percent of cultures reportedly have no word for love.[3] Others maintain that love exists but is undefinable; being a quantity which is spiritual, metaphysical, or philosophical in nature, etc. Perhaps due to its emotional primacy, love is one of the most common themes in art.

An illusion that lasts a few months, for some, a few years and then it becomes more the fact that you are used to someone than the actual feeling...or the fear of being alone. If love was so true and eternal as it is normally described, there wouldn't be on average three major ones in a person's lifetime wouldn't it?
Just a clinical, objective take on it....

Love itself is fairly indefinable by nature - it means something different to everyone that refers to it - but my own personal feelings point to two categories:
1: People / things / feelings that you love -
Any thing, anyone or experience that would seriously affect your own emotional wellbeing if you were forced to live without.
This is how I define love for family and close friends, love for pastimes, and to a lesser extent posessions.
2: Being "in Love" -
Finding the one person to whom you bond with on the deepest possible level. This has NOTHING to do with sexual attraction - that's LUST plain and simple. Being in love with someone means that you will give all you are and have without a second thought for yourself purely for their happiness - even if that means removing your own in the process. It is when every aspect of your life becomes a second priority to the one person whom you have connected with emotionally. Fortunately, while it is a very difficult concept to describe, it is one that most people can instantly recognise due to the bond being so strong.
I hope this helps with your understanding of this very enigmatic concept. It is VERY hard to grasp, but can quickly become the single most important thing in your life.

Love is a combination of understanding, consideration, respect, selflessness, passion, etc.... many emotions make up love but htere is no exact defintion of love. It's something you feel. Like your heart just skips a beat when they are not their. You miss them when they are gone. You help them up through trouble and don't find it suffocating being with them. Then will you know you are in love. Give all you have for that love to survive.

love is that indescribable feeling we all secretly long for...some pretend they do not because they were hurt by it...it has to be pampered and kept alive, otherwise it turns into pain...but if you really do have love, you have the greatest gift in life and should tell everyone so as to give others hope...i could use some hope...

Love is irrelevant. People are better off with honest relationships built on sex or mutual needs.
