It is a type of insulation typically used as an underlayment for siding. It is manufactured by Dow Chemical, and is available in various thicknesses. Blueboard is sold in 4'x8' sheets at your local home centers.

Blue board is an excellent water resistant drywall, generally used for veneer plaster work which has the same appearance as a regular plaster wall but without the lathing or brown coat. Green board is the moisture resistant drywall used in bathrooms and can be used for a backer for ceramic tile.

Blueboard is waterproof sheetrock. It's used in bathrooms.

it can be an exterior insulation board, it can be a moisture resistance sheetrock, ( not water proof)

Great explanation. I might add that while it is a great drywall substitute it is also more expensive.
