I have had oil changes and showed proof to the MFG but they still state it was not taken care of. (yes they are recent) I have taken it to a mechanic and they quoted $650.00 for repairs of a bad piston I just do not want to get taken for a ride. Young and Female and unfortunately
not knowledgeable on car repairs. It cranks over but has a bad knocking noise while running losses power right away. Well I hope I can at least get some info if this is worth the time and $$$. Thanks for reading and thanks if you answer!!!

Not a bad price for replacing a piston. When you get your oil changed who does it? You should be aware of what kind of oil your car requires. Find the owners Manuel and read it. Do you have a oil leak in the system somewhere? So many things go into taking care of car not just making sure the oil gets changed.
Get it repaired now before you ruin even more than the one piston.

First off, $650 is on the cheap side of any kind of engine work- can you be more specific about what exactly is being done? Replacing a bad piston involves disassembling the entire engine, which is a very involved process. Also, what does your warranty situation look like? How many miles do you have on your car?

If you're still under warranty and you have proof that you did all the required maintenance, you can file for third party arbitration through your state which is somewhere between doing nothing and filing a suit in small claims court. I'd suggest going that route, I've attached a link to the California page on arbitration, do a Yahoo! search for 'warranty arbitration' and the name of your state.

if that fails, you can always file a claim in small claims court.

Unfortunately, you are in a pickle. Without the engine running good, the car isn't Worth the cost of towing it away.
I can't tell what caused the failure because I can't see it. BUT in the dealer's defense, there are a myriad of things that could cause a piston to burn, and lack of maintenance is one of them.
If you have a shop that is going to do the repairs for $650.00, get it done for that (or even a LITTLE more), then use the car for a trade-in.

Go to a lawyer. You shouldn't be charged to talk to a lawyer to tell him/her what the situation is. If the lawyer believes you have a strong case, he/she will send a threatening letter to the dealer.

That would probably prompt some action by the dealership, but then after that, I wouldn't advise stepping foot in that dealership again. My experience has been that dealerships routinely sabotage vehicles to increase business.

Tell the lawyer your concern about that, too.

Good luck.
