they said the car was running after the wreck but not real sure if it was

You need to get a shop manual like Haynes or other and trouble shoot the problem. You need to trouble shoot the problem and eliminate what it is not. You can check for spark with a cheap simple tool from any parts store. The fuel system is bit more complicated you need so much fuel pressure before the vehicle will even start.

You need to eliminate what it is not if you know you have fire (spark) at the plug then you need to check the fuel system if the fuel system checks out you need to test for a crank angle sensor or other sensor, broken, shorted, or other problem.

Sorry but I would get a shop manual it may not help you but it's cheap and if you can't diag the problem with the book chances are it's more complicated and needs to be done by a tech
