I want to get my masters in teaching elementary education. I don't know what to do and none of the education professors are helpful at my school. I don't understand why some schools require that I am already certified, and others don't. I am so confused, can someone help explain the difference in the programs, and what I need to do from here??

If you want to teach el.ed., you will need to take the education classes and do student teaching. In Ohio, elementary certification is divided into 3 levels--k-2; 3-5; 6-8. You can also get certification to teach kindergarten and reading. Ohio has the "highly qualified" teacher thing. Schools tend not to hire someone who is not "highly qualified" because the school district is punished in some way, probably financially and the school report card.

Going backwards through your question.
If you are confused wait, work for a while.
Some masters are MS, EdM; some are MAT.
MAT you get a masters and certification, the others you have your education degree (or cert.) and expand.

Hope it helps-that's how I see it.

I got a BS (not in ed.), became cert'd, then got a EdM.
