If the majority of people are poor, can't get medical care, the world hates our country, and the environment is being degraded, what good will money do you? While the Democrats are no shining example of leadership either, my new perspective from my U.S. history class (which focuses on each president and what they accomplished or botched) has proven to me that Republicans have policies that only serve a tiny % of the country. How is that fair?

why subscribe to a party system at all? both parties unequivocally eat from the same trough and drink from the same well. what's going on in the government today is nothing close to real republican values. in fact, if it weren't for the hannity's, rice's and other apologists, most people would recognize that this adminstration's spending eclipses every democratic leader this country has ever had. but, people are too busy reciting talking points and re-affirming their beliefs by listening to talk radio that they refuse to see what's in front of them. the republican party traditionally stood for constitutional rights, bootstrap economics and strong domestic/foreign diplomacy. we don't have that right now. this government is all but shredding what's left of constitutional rights; promotes what they dub 'investor class' economics, which is the same thing as supply-side, voodoo, or trickle-down economics (but with a catchier, less connotative name); and has an atrocious track record at home and abroad. so, your history teacher would better serve you by qualifying his/her 'republican' statement with 'today's' or 'modern' to differentiate from the platform of representatives like goldwater, dewey and others who are probably turning in their graves right now. we're closer to communism than we think, but as long as the unthinking elements in the u.s. population continue to swallow what o'reilly tells them and continue to equate communism with liberals (or with hitler, which is also incorrect), the misinformation mill will continue to have its grist.

Both parties have their pro's and con's. But overall I agree with the republicans. Because you framed you question, at least partially, as an economic issue, then definitely republican. I know it seems backwards, but tax cuts do generate greater revenue in taxes. Do the rich get richer, yes, but they also invest more in their businesses, and part of that investment is labor. More revenue. That money will help pay for health insurance. It will help pay off debt, and increase your cash flow. Welcome to the power of the free market.
The far left (which is the democrats in general are headed) want to redistribute wealth, to be fair. Sorry but sometimes not everything is fair. Is it fair that I have no athletic ability and will never play shortstop in the majors. NO LOL. But it is true. Fortunately, in the western world for the most part, in particular America, you can make a more money through some luck, ingenuity and a lot of hard work. That's more fair than working hard to make the same amount as some who slacks off through life.
I used to a democrat, now independent leaning towards conservative. The party in general is sliding more and more to the socialist way of thinking. Being independent means I vote for the person I think is best for the position. Sometimes it's still a democrat, but more often it is a republican. Bring back the moderate democrat and maybe they will get some people back.

Don't believe your teacher. Ask him about the major foreign policy achievements of Carter, Kennedy, or Clinton. Check out how much more money, as a % of GNP was spent during each administration for social programs (that worked). He will probably backpedal a bit. Check all of this info out in the Almanacs in your library. Most teachers are ignorant when they do not follow the textbook. Your teacher is a liar.

Because you dislike minorities and women, don't think people have a right to privacy from the government and think that the biggest problem isn't the environment or education or Iraq or terrorrism but that rich people pay too much in taxes. Those are all reasons why someone would be a republican.

what have the dems done?
there were the poor under clinton. we were hated then too, we were attacked. 911 was planned while clinton was in charge.
the so-called surplus was only on paper, it came from cutting the military and intelligence community budgets. that really worked for us, didn't it? the economy has grown under bush. unemployment is less under bush. clinton didn't do anything about health care or the environment or fuel economy. the republicans do what's right for the country and the economy. the dems do scaliest welfare and whatever it takes to get votes for dems period

Wow. So much to discuss here. Conservatives believe in themselves, liberals prefer the government to tell them what to do. There is no better incentive for an individual to be successful in life than to work hard to make something of yourself. Liberals would rather take the easy route and remain lower income by relying on the government to take care of them (think Communism. Nope, it didn't work).

I hate to break the news to you, but....in our society at this time and space, both parties are working for rich special interest groups. these groups helped them get elected and they need their contributions when they are up for re-election. It used to be a fact that Democrats worked for the common man, but it is common knowledge now that Demos work for the rich as much as the repubs.

Sadly that is what it may look like when you don't consider that when you help large business and private business you make jobs that then help everyone.

But taxing large buisness to death, you destroy jobs. But it takes a few years for the efects to take place

I say stop worrying so much about the political party and base votes on the individual person.
