I heard that it was shallow because by the end my friend felt that all it said was that if you're pretty you'll go far in life. I haven't seen it. Isn't it kind of the opposite of that? Wouldn't it be like, you don't have to be beautiful to do well? I'm kind of put off now. Can you tell me what the movie is actually like? (without spoilers please).

I mean, I expect it to be a bit shallo wbecause it's about fashion, but won't that make it kind of funny? I find fashion to be really overrated, so won't this kind of mock it?

Go to the local library and read the book that way you dont have to go to the movies and spend 11.50 to see a stupid movie (i dont know if the movie is stupid ive never seen it) but read the book im sure itll be better than the movie. Ive never read the book either. but just a suggestion.

No not shallow, a comedy. Billy Crystal on Saturday Night Live said "it is not the way you feel but how you look, and you look Marvelous!" He was funny and you should not judge a movie by just the one sentence. If not sure just go to a matinee or wait for it to come to video so you do not waste your money and if you do not like it you can simply turn it off.

It's a good movie... and no, there is no way to tell you why without spoilers. It ISN'T at all saying pretty gets you far... You're friend has issues. Sorry, but she does. See it. I'm a guy and I liked it.

I saw the movie & was impressed by Meryl Streep's remarkable acting talent, as always. Other than that, I could hardly empathize with the film's fashion & fame theme, although I'm sure someone could.

Aren't all movies shallow. They all say the same thing. Be pretty act nice and eat sh**. You will go far in life if you do those few things.

its a really good movie.
at the end i felt that the real meaning was that you dont need to wear sexy clothes to get what you want. all you have to do it go for your dreams and what you want.
