Well it shapes a nation and provides a sense of identity and ways of knowing.

However culture itself is hard to define - one can't just say it is 'important' - it is something that is irrefutable, unavoidable and self reproducing - especially with technology shaping culture - they both define each other kind of like the 'chicken and the egg' conundrum.

I have lived over seas for several years now and this is the best I could answer this question. I think it's because people feel a need to make themselves independent from other countries. Lots of the charateristics of cultures are linked to traditions and people don't want those traditions to end. Because people have a way of doing things for a very long time it takes a lot to get them to change. It probably isn't important for every country to have a different culture, but it gives people a sense of pride and patriotism.

Some countries, including the US, China, and even Iraq, have more than one culture. The establishment of a country creates a culture, but other cultures already in existence can continue to exist within it. In the US, the cultures of the Native Americans was preserved, despite the efforts of the church and the colonialism of the early pioneers. Iraq is an example of one culture (Kurds) coming into conflict with the ruling majority.

Whether important or not, with the latest trend it appears culture will be blended out into a mix of Americanism and capitalism in many parts of the world.

Everywhere it's looking like America with all the recognized logos and storefronts that diminish the long established culture.

Makes the world a boring place, with little need for travel.

You can't rave about any one particular place anymore, because it's really just a copy of America.

Country's don't have a culture. Peoples have culture. Groups of people with much in common develop ways of doing things and making a history among themselves.

It is important because it develops a feeling of belonging within the group. It is really scary to think that you are utterly alone.

Because citizens will sacrifice their lives to defend the culture for themselves and their descendants.

That's why multiculturalism will ruin this country. Many will join the side of the enemy when the time comes that are country falls under attack.

It's what everyone else does that defines a culture. In many countries, people come to USA to get away from their culture. unfortunately, they don't appear to embrace ours.
