the americans,by and large are very ignorant and know nothing about the rest of the world, yet they are the ones who decide the most powerful man in the world!

as an american that offends me greatly, but truthfully when i sit back and think about it, it is true. most americans ARE ignorant of the world outside their own small lives....

I have found this to be very true about American's awareness of geography and politics of the world.
Decisions made in Washington DC have consequences all over the world because USA has 6% of the world's population consumes 30% of the world's resources, and generates 25% of the world economic activity.

Maybe true, maybe not. I think the same can be said about the typical citizen in any given country. We just happen to live in the US.

But I miss the point somehow. Who else would you trust to decide the most powerful man in the world?

Americans are not more ignorant than any other citizens of a nation. People all over the planet are way over confident about what they know. And whoever said this statement, is one of those people.

i don't know about the rest of the world, but i would think that most ppl have at least some basic knowledge of all the major issues facing us today. i mean come on, ev.body reads the paper and watches the news at least once in a while don't they? we can't all be ignaramuses otherwise the u.s. would not exist as we know it.

Yep! It was reciently suggest to me that because of the power of the US president that all the people in the world be able to vote. Sounds like an interesting idea.

Who gives a damn about the rest of the world. We don't have to worry about them they have to worry about us. Its great to be the Big Dog on the block!

As a whole we must be pretty soft not only to re-elect the current Pres. after what he did, but we the people are not even standing up while are great country is being hijacked.
