Do not buy a Tercel from this era. They're the bottom of the Toyota fleet from the early 90s, and you'll be in for a lot of problems. If it has an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system, you'll experience nothing but headaches. If it doesn't, you'll still experience nothing but headaches. Blown headgaskets are not uncommon on Tercels from the early 90s. The best car Toyota made from this period was the Corolla. If you can get your hands on a good Corolla from about 1992 to 1995, you'll be doing well. Even some of the earlier Corollas (don't go older than 90) are not bad.

Whichever car you decide to go with, be sure to get it inspected by a mechanic you trust before you buy it.

Good luck.
