read some sort of boring book, do the alphabet backwards, glass of milk, listen to some really chilled music, try to relax/clear your mind, thinking too much, worry, anxiety might be the cause, i usually take a warm, relaxing bath before bed. If none of those don't work.....geez....i don't know, but i'm certain one of those will work. Sweet dreams!!!!!

Try and get more exercise early in the day , don't drink any caffine after noon. (this includes cola & tea) Go to bed 30 min to an hour before you plan to sleep get up earlier in the day. Don't nap. In bed read or watch something really boring/familiar(this helps alot if you cant stop thinking/worrying long enough to fall asleep. Count backwards from 100. Also if you drink it, milk has tryotophan in it which aids in sleep.

deep breathing.

First find a good position. Inhale through the nose slowly for 5 counts, hold for 3 counts, then exhale through the mouth slowly for 5 counts. Repeat this process counting backwards from 50.

Be sure to inhale and exhale slowly to avoid hyperventilation.

Deep breathing , as my physiologist said, will do it unless you can't concentrate on it. Breathe in as deep as you can and exhale as far as you can 16 times. It works for me before I get to 9. We also have a tape to listen to that does the same thing that came from him. In an attempt to use it to lower blood pressure and relax at the same time, I sometimes fall asleep.

Lavender bath oil and body lotion.
Also try a lettuce sandwich.....it sounds daft, but i have bouts of insomnia and i tried it, it worked for me! Don't drink too much coffee before going to bed either, cos its got caffiene in which stimulates the mind.

Try burning some lavender candles in your house. A cup of 'Sleepy Time' tea might also help. You can find it in most grocery stores with the other teas.
