My computer has become very slow over the last couple of days. Slow to flick from one page to the next, slow to scroll down the page, slow to go from one site to the next, and as I type, my typing is way ahead of the text coming up on screen. What's more, it isn't downloading the avatars on this site. It's a Windows 98 (old, I know) and I have 1-2 meg broadband. What could be the problem?

Check for spyware, adware, and hackerware. These programs take up a lot of system resources.

If you don't already have antispyware, antivirus, and a firewall..more than likely you have a load of spyware on your computer. You can download a free spyware removal here: http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5
