I believe it is because everyone is so busy and so focused on what is going on in their own lives, that we tend to forget that there is a world out there beyond our own. That and the fact that the world is a very different place than it use to be. Everyone is leary of everyone else. from all the bad stuff going on in the world. So, beware of the unknown!

It's a cut throat society. Everyone is too focused on reaching it to the top of the economic ladder.

Are you crazy? That's what it's all about on TV movies, shows, commercials, etc. that is mostly what it's about. Especially commercials about dating, wireless phones, weight loss, bars, sports, hair and skin care and a million other things.

I believe it is fear. The fear of getting hurt and the fear that everyone is out for something. It has become an expectation that no one is honest and noone wants to just be friends. So I believe that fear is the answer. Isnt is sad that we as humans allow something as trivial as fear to rule our lives.
