Everything we do serves something. It either serves our lust, our greed, our insecurity or ego, our hunger and thirst etc. Do your religious beliefs- and we all have them BECAUSE WE ALL HAVE A "SOUL" define your reason to make excuses to serve yourself and not God? You wanna sin, you like to sin, it fills you, so your unconscience mind, can not handle the truth, so it makes up excuses for it's short comings. It is called DENIAL. That is why some people turn away from God. Is it because you desire to sin For Example, Prostitution. Sex is a soulful experience meant for Love not just physical gratification, like taking a dump. This illeagal act is illegal because it causes disease to spread and accidents like unwanted babies and therefore abortions and it is morrally wrong. But you want to do it anyway. So you feed your lust thumbing your nose at God. While God is saying in all sin circumstance "Stop, please that is not good for you, that is a sin." When will people learn to stop sinning?

Secular humanism means simply that you can be a good, moral person without religion. It shouldn't be hard, but I guess it is.

I think that the idea behind the secular humanism movement is all about, ' we can do it our way in our power, we're intrinsicly good, we don't need God to be kid, generous...etc. etc.' So far, all S.H. proved to do is take the matter in their own hands and make it destructive... Sort of like talking the fire out of the stove and spread it into wildfire... Good intentions, bad maneuvre.
People will stop sinning, when they are no longer subject to their sinful nature. For that to happen there's got to happen more things, like a new earth, and new heaven, that's not bound by the curse of sin... The best you can do now, is keep short accounts with God. And rezist the devil until he runs from you.

You are 100% correct and I agree with you- that everything we do serves something selfish.

I don't see why this shouldn't include religious beliefs - such as believing in god. We believe in god to make ourselves feel better about the mysterious state of our lives (such as - what is our purpose, why are we here) and the mysterious state of our universe (why do things happen as they do). People that believe in god and do the things you spoke of, are sinners, because they believe they are, and simply don't care, or don't care enough. Those that have alternative or no religious beliefs, well, that is a different moral compass there isn't it.

Bar and a pair of others gave you good solutions. JWs additionally use many different components of information that isn't be thoroughly precise. We use Greek/Hebrew and BIble dictionaries of many faiths whilst they show issues wisely, we use all BIble variations however some might have a sprint bit confusing or incorrect renderings on some factors. The Ante Nicene Fathers and N-PNF incorporate many stuff misguided to Bible coaching (and additionally no longer in settlement with contemporary faith in Christendom as they have stepped forward and altered additionally). So it relatively is incorrect whilst JWs do it, yet ok whilst huge conventional faith does it? isn't that being a hypocrit? Debbie

They've all got an excuse.

There's always something they don't want to give up.

They just hide it really well and bury it under things like "I don't believe because it hasn't been proven to me... bla bla... So many bad people in church ...bla bla... I'm a good person that's what counts ..bla bla bla bla bla"

But at the bottom of it, the very bottom, they're gay or they're addicted to booze or porn or affairs or biterness or hate or unforgiveness or something.
Why else wouldn't you want to take the free gift of Christ's forgiveness.

Is is the life of people who are not religious and claim to be as good as anyone else. Most people are and don't know it because they don't gather as such people and discuss things that way.

Atheists like to hang with them though. It floats to the outside of common circles.

No one is going to stop sinning but we can be conscious about what is right and what is wrong. Post-modern moral relativism makes the problem worse.
