i think that 11 or 12 is a perfect age for a young adult, i am seriously considering the firefly where there are only 4 numbers programed into the phone, they come in prepaid, they can hit any number 1-4 each number is assigned to a specific person (mom, dad, emergency number, a grand parent), that away they dont run up the time and they can check in with you or you can check in on them if they are out with friends or at a birthday party or an after school activity. no i dont think that 7 is a good age to get a phone they are not quite responsible enough to have a phone of that kind.

It depends on the child's mental abilities, not their age. Some kids are smarter at 7 years of age than others at 16!! I think a child needs a phone mostly for safety reasons, i.e. if they have after school functions and needs to call home for a ride. just being able to keep in touch while away from home. The phone can be put on a very "short leash". like paid in advance minutes, that way you have some control of the usage of the phone.

NO WAY ! My kids are mad at me cause I will not let them have one- they are 14 & 13. No way it is a problem waiting to happen.
Talk about an invitation for disaster!
oy vey!
ALTHOUGH??
Verizon offered the thing called the Amigo. that was cool, programable for 4 numbers of the parents choosing, plus free IN calling I considered that but no... prolly will wait for a while yet.
Dont see why we have to have the kids all grown up so young??Makes no sense to me.
Plus alot of these phones cost way to dang much to let irresponsible kids have them. My daughter's friend lost her cell phone AND $300 IPOD.. it is crazy.
There is no mystery anymore , nothing is new and there's nothing that can't be done. ITS CRAZY- No wonder kids are bored, they have seen it all by the time they are 3.
This is an instant gratification society- and this technology does not help.

When they are old enough to make money and pay the bill, be responsible. If they are just handed things they will grow up to think the world owes them something. They need to be taught if they want something they have to work and save for it.

no i think they should be at least 12, but that's just me, most parents don't have a problem with them at 7, but i think that is a little to young, it basically depends on the maturity level of the child.

when they're old enough to need it for safety reasons, or when they're old enough to work OUTSIDE the home and make enough to pay for it.
