This person wants to get me a credit card & is willing to pay for what I get, but I'm under 18. Can this person pay for it AND it be in my name, if we aren't related? I know something like that works out for college students, but I'm not in college at the moment, even though I will be in a few months. I won't be 18 until next spring, so it'll be a little while. Anyone know if that's legal and if I can do that? And yes this person that wants to get me a credit card is over 18.

You can be added as a Signer on many credit cards, just make sure you don't give your social security number. You can use the card, but they are liable for the payments. They would call their credit company and say they would like an additional card, the credit card company would ask what name they want the additional card in and they would give your name. I repeat, DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER!

No. Because you are under age, you cannot legally enter into a contract. Further, it constitutes fraud in most states, and both you and your friend could wind up in jail. I have seen it happen.

You also don't want to get your credit tied up with anyone else; if things were to go south with this person, and despite what you think right now, you have a 50/50 shot that they WILL go south, then YOU will be stuck for whatever charges are on that credit card.

Let's not even TALK about giving your social security number to someone who is essentially a complete stranger -- because that is what is required to get a credit card, is a SS# -- who could then take your personal information and do all kinds of things with it, and you would never be the wiser until it was way too late.

You're looking at getting into a lot of trouble before you even get started. Be patient & wait until you can do it for yourself or your parents can help you. The person wanting to give you a credit card is going to want something from you in return that you may not like.

You can be an authorized user on a card no matter your age. There is no signature required from you. The person getting you the card accepts the responsibility of you using their card.

What are you doing to get this card? Who is this from? Sounds like the beginning of trouble to me. Or just a lie to keep you interested.

I wouldn't suggest it. What happens if say in a few months that you two have a falling out and that person takes you to court. You'll really be wishing to have a credit card then to pay your bills. Don't do it, don't trust somebody to pay your bills.

Sounds like a scam to me. Talk to your parents about it.
