Nietzsche is considered to have been influenced by Dostoevsky, so it would certainly seem that the two would have something to talk about if they met. I think that Dostoevsky and Nietzsche had sone very different views on the topic of suffering, however, much of which I think is understandable from their very different life experiences.

One of the more common themes in Dostoevsky's work, for example, is the idea of spiritual regeneration through suffering. Like a penance for sins, it is suffering that can cleanse you and put you back on your feet again. In Dostoevsky's own life, it was only after he was sent to Siberia that he found God and began to reject Western values for traditional Russian ones. He must have found that his own troubles helped rein in the radicalism of his youth and focus him on more important matters. Likewise, later in life most of Dostoevsky's troubles were self-made from his gambling addiction - he probably viewed them as the punishment for doing what he knew he shouldn't be doing.

Nietzshe, on the other hand, saw no need for suffering at all. Was was trouble to an inferior person would fail to even be an obstacle to a superior one. Suffering, therefore, is a sign a weakness; a way to separate the wheat from the chaff. Nietzsche himself suffered from a variety of lifelong physical conditions which often left him ill, sleepless, and which probably contributed ultimately to his breakdowns and death. Rather than submit to these conditions, he struggled to overcome them... which would seem to lead to his philosophy of triumph and his complete rejection of all philosophies allowed surrender, submission of the self in the whole, and so on.

Both of them are VERY good reads! Hope that helps!
