The south changed, not just Texas. The Democratic party moved too far to the left for most Southern (Texas) Democrats. Southern Democrats are more conservative then most northern Republicans. They followed their ideology rather then stick with their party.

Yes it has. - and big time at that. Both US Senators are Republican. About 2/3 of all Congressman are Republican. The Governor and Lt. Governor. The majority of the state senators and congressmen are republican. ALL elected offices in Austin - Attorney General, Texas Supreme Court, Railroad Commissioner, Comptroller etc. are all Republicans. They have a complete handle on things in this state.

Prior to Nixon, the "solid south" voted mostly Democratic.

Most so-called Afican-Americans voted Republican prior to Pres. FDR.

The people have finally learned that the Dems.handouts don't help anyone. The programs the they always come up with are always short term to get the votes to stay in office. In the end nothing gets better. The Reps. try to encourage you to better yourself. It does look like they favor the rich, but they are really just supporting the people that earned their own wealth.

Texas has never been liberal. The whole lone star republic certainly wasn't socialist in any capicity.
