The people get more upset if you spell a word wrong than they do if you insult a cop.Why don't you just get over it?Some times it is possible to make a mistake.I almost submitted that without a capital s on some, that would have made the people mad.

Probably because first impressions mean a lot, and your words are the only indicator of your intelligence to these people. So if you misspell something, some people take that as meaning that you are in some way uneducated.
By the way, some people are giving you crap about your confederate flag. I think it's cool.

I think because many times it doesn't make any sense if it's so poorly spelled and there's a spell check right there that people can use. I think most people can tell the difference between a mistake and a lazy person who didn't use the spell check. Also, some words are pretty common and yet people are spelling them wrong and not using the spell check. They do this and then set out to insult people. They're just asking for trouble then.

Exactly. It just shows how lazy some people are. It's understandable to misspell a word every now and then, but with the new technology invented several years ago (called SPELL CHECK), it just shows how lazy you are by not clicking the button before you send it.
Or it could be that you just don't give a crap what other people think of you. Either way, you should just hit the button anyway. It takes what...? less than a second to do it!

I don't mind a few odd misspellings and grammar mistakes, but when a person's writing is full of them, it's just annoying and distracting, like eating food with sand in it. On top of that, if a person doesn't even do a half-assed job of trying to spell what they have to say, why should I believe they've put any thought into it? If I don't know the person, it gives me the impression they're lazy or not especially bright.
If you don't believe me, try filling an application for any skilled job with grammatical errors and see if you ever hear back.

Misspelled words and bad grammar are a sign of someone lacking in intelligence or schooling or a sign someone is lazy. I have no time for people who won't try. It is sad so many people won't take more time. I keep hoping that perhaps if I keep harping on it maybe they will wake up and smell the coffee. Otherwise, there is a good chance that they will become another person I have to support in the future when they can't get a job or keep one.

Well I don't do that to anyone, I have made my share of mistakes even with spell check! I do not like short forms for words but I refrain from saying anything. If I can understand the question I just answer it ,if a little (typonese) typos its not the end of the world. If it is purposeful butchering of the language that gets me cranky. One word or two misspelled no biggy at all. I can only speak for myself. Take Care!

It's annoying. Over here in the right hand corner is the icon for Check Spelling. All one has to do is CLICK on it and follow the instructions to fix the errors. That's all one has to do. And, most people don't.
I am also a teacher.I find it extremely annoying that people don't take the time to fix their errors. Many are LAZY. I think others pick up on it, too.
Why don't we just over it? Well, why don't people check first?
How lazy can we be? Lazy, lazy, lazy. Careless, careless, careless. This shows up in the questions and answers. How can you be taken seriously if you don't take the time to check on your spelling and punctuation?

Misspellings are just a sign of laziness. Even on these questions you post, there's a spell check right on top of the text box.
Someone too lazy to click the spell check is offensive.

I agree, a lot of people take it too seriously. I think the main issue is that it is often an indicator of the intelligence level of the person asking a question. Often if people see someone as "stupid" because of poor typing, they will pass the question off as ridiculous.
However, sometimes this can be good to notice, as many of these questions are not serious at all.

I suppose it's more that some people try to present themselves as smarter or better informed than others, when they can't even spell common words correctly. An occasional typo is one thing, but apparent illiteracy does nothing for your credibility. Personally, I've worked too hard at my education to be talked down to by some 13-year old wanker who kant spel.
