I know karma means (or think it means) that if you do something good you'll get something good in return and vice versa...I was just wondering it feels like I've been having a really bad 3 weeks, nothing good at all about it- if my bad times should be done with soon and then happiness can start again? Or are there no 'laws' that say if you've had bad times, you're sure to get good times?

There are no laws, just beliefs. And Karma can be instant or take thousands of years - depending on whether or not you believe in reincarnation.

Buddhists believe that life is suffering, so there is no reason a person can't go thru a bad spell even if they've been a good person. (I'm not Buddhist, but by wife is.)

Every religion has their own form of morality enforcement. Buddhism uses karma & reincarnation. Islam & Xtianity use the bribe of heaven & threat of hell. Not sure what Hinduism uses, but I'm sure they have something.

There are, however, two things to know regardless:
1. $hit happens. It's just a part of life. Sometimes, for no reason whatsoever, life just isn't fair.
2. Good deeds done for personal gain (e.g. to get more good karma, or to get into heaven) don't count for much in the final tallying, because they are tainted by selfish motives. They should be done simply for the sake of doing good.

Hope this helps!

Karma can be from many life times ago. THe only good thing is that usually when really bad stuff happens, a lot of "bad" karma has been released. Keep doing good things and building up good karma for this life and others to come!

In a perfect world, Karma would be served up immediately. But, it builds over time. Think of it as a bank. The more deposits you make, the larger the account. It is merely which kind of dividends that are dispersed that determines whether your Karma will have been determined to have been good or bad.

Karma...the law of cause and effect or "what goes around, comes around" has no time frame. It can come back to you at any given time. When these bad things seem to pop up on you, try saying "this too shall pass" instead of "what next?" and you won't attract the series of bad events.

Tendencies that continue can define extended periods of time and entire lifetimes.......

Karma is just like quiting a bad habit -- it takes an effort to go in another direction and avoid the inertia of the past

but caution! -> fighting something always strengthens what you resist

karma is eternal through past lives and future ones a bad spell you ar facing know only reflects that in a past life you made errors that you must learn from in this one in order to correct them for your next life
