This is an interesting question! With the global community edging closer and closer together, it may well seem that the idea of associating yourself with a national identity when the entire world is scrunching itself up could become something of the past...

I really don't think it will be. As long as there is something to separate peoples from one another, such as oceans, mountains, deserts, rivers, and other geographical markers, areas will always be a little more separate. Even though getting to a different place is easier now, those lines on a map still mean something. It identifies you to your country's past, holds you to their laws, has you sharing in their culture and traditions. Even if you choose to defy or change them, they still affect who you are. It might be that in the future it will mean LESS, but I would say unless something entirely new comes along that nationalism is here to stay now that our nations are defined.

Sadly, I think so. At least in the US. America gets badmouthed constantly from its own populace. People honestly believe that President Bush is worse than Saddam Hussein. It's maddening how people can put THAT much spin on something. Our bickering media and political parties are destroying our pride in a great nation.

I am very proud on my country (Canada), but excessive nationalism is not a good thing.

"Love of one country leads to hate of another" can't remember who said it.

I think Nationalism will be around for a long time, along with a bunch of other 'isms'

No,I believe most people love their country, not everybody in the same way, but everybody does. You can see immigrants for example in USA from any country working there because in their home countries they can not work, or the salary is low, and they still dream about returning at least on vacations. They continue with traditions, customs, food, music etc.

Pride in one's country is a good thing and it has its place.. Nationalism is a doctrine that implies that one country is better than another or knows more so one country must invade another to set them straight.. to see the error of their ways... this has been going on for thousands of years.
