It was said recently that some people read books not because they're interested in them, but because they wish to give a certain impression about themselves. So, which book would you like to be seen reading in public?

In order to answer this question i will have to pretend for a moment that i actually care what people think of me, which incidentaly, i dont.

However, to entertain the hypothetical, id have to say.....

"War and Peace" when i want to be seen as intelligent

"The Karma Sutra" when i want to be seen as sexy

"Walk to Freedom" when i want people to think i care about human nature

"Harry Potter" when i want to look young

"The Holy Bible" when i need to look innocent

"Bridget Jones's Diary" when i want men to steer clear

"A Child Called IT" when i want to be seen as compassionate

and for the grand finale....

"Hello" ... when i've had enough of pretending and all i really want to do is see whats going on with the Beckhams

Im shallow, so shoot me

I'm Not Bothered. I don't wish to give any impression in public.

Books I have read in the last few years that I would recommend as outstanding are:

Christie Malry's Own Double Entry
Life of Pi
The Plot Against America

I believe Oscar Wilde wrote, "I always carry my diary. One should have something scandelous to read on the train."

That's a line from The Importance of Being Earnest. I would definitely start a conversation with someone reading The Importance of Being Earnest in public.

I read Doctor Who novels mostly at them moment. I would like to be seen reading Herodotos as this is my favourite book and makes me look learned too.

I have too many books to get through before trying to choose just one to 'create an impression'. Trust me, I read anything from history, children's fiction, adult fiction, science, fashion magazines and critical literature. I have to read or else I would go into meltdown.

Whatever I'm interested in. I don't like giving the wrong impression about myself and my personal tastes.
