I have had 3 kids and haven't had this experience with any of them. I would call your ob/gyn to see what they think. I think it is normal not to hear the heartbeat as early in pregnancy as you are. I didn't hear it that early with any of my kids. Call your ob/gyn just to be on the safe side. If it is something to worry about you don't need to be on here taking advice from amatures.

Some women do spot, especially in the first trimester. As long as you don't have cramping you are usually fine. 5-6 weeks is usually too soon to see a hearbeat.
I have been in this situation myself, and unfortunatly it ended badly for me. When you have spotting, the doctors will always tell you that it's an implied miscarraige...but you have a 50% chance of nothing being wrong. My best friend went in with light bleeding and now has a four month old!
Whatever happens, you need to try to remain calm. I know this sounds IMPOSSIBLE right now. You are probably frightened and sad...but stress is bad for baby! Take a few days off and just relax, get some bed rest.
9You are in my prayers and I truly hope that everything turns out well for you.

If you are worried, you really should call and talk to the doctor. If it helps I would definately do the ultrasound.
Yes, I have been there. I had light bleeding and no cramps, they did an u/s and found the heartbeat even thought we couldn't hear it.
Demand to be followed up with ultrasounds later including a brain scan.
I carried mine full term, he was born dead after hearing the heartbeat the day before. He had brain damage that could have been caught on an u/s but I was on Medicaid and had a crappy doctor and it wasn't caught.
Good luck and God Bless

Well bleeding isn't always mean your going to have a miscarriage, a lot of women bleed, the heart beat most of the time can't be found until almost 10-12 wks so I wouldn't worry. Everything should be okay. Just relax and don't give up. Make sure you keep taking your prenatal pills, and eat health. Take care.

I've had a couple of kids, but am not an expert. I'm pretty sure it's normal to not hear the heartbeat until the further into the pregnancy. The bleeding could just be a sign that the placenta is attaching to the wall of the uterus. In that case, it would be a good sign!

I suffered a miscarriage with my fourth pregnancy, 16 weeks along I started bleeding in the middle of a mall of all places. rushed to the hospital to find no heartbeat and the doctors asking me if I was even pregnant, I had not received doctors care for I was planing on having a home birth. they should take your blood levels and see how much hormones you have in your body...when they took mine it was as high as someone who was 5 weeks along.. not 16 weeks. It is their job to be there for you.. if you have a concern you tell them what you want...it is your body and your baby...not the doctors.if he doesn't do what you ask then it would be time to find a new one...because at 6 weeks he is not helping you at the delivery he will only railroad you. at 6 weeks it is to early to hear the heartbeat....you should at ten weeks.
