Maybe because no one listens to them at home or in the work place. It's an anonymous way of getting approval.

who do you mean when you say "some people"? I am a smart person in a lot of things and in some things I am dumber than a rock.
I suppose when a person wants to make you think they are smart and try to smooze you into rating them best, they go all out. Especially here where no one really cares if you are or not. You are just a few lines of type on a page, turn the page and you are forgotten.
If you mean the ones who try to use big words, and mess up the spelling or the meaning is completely wrong, those folks I applaud. They are trying to improve themselves, and even if they are kind of clumsy at first, eventually they will do just that.
I think maybe the way to get smart is to act smart, gives you confidence that you are able to learn things others seem to learn so quickly. Builds self-esteem and self-respect.

Because we ARE smart. I skipped two grades and finished all the math and English classes in my school.
I love debating and politics. Writing long, boring essays are a good way to throw people off.

I think I go to this sight just to pretend that I am smart.
It seems to be the only place where I can be kind of
