Well, some of them would be interesting to have as neighbors. Others would really get on your nerves. I would always be plotting some way to get even with the bully I think.

Matt Groening, the creator of the Simpsons, was asked the same question. He said it wasn't a real city. The people are a cross-section of the American people. The name is only called Springfield because it's the most common name for an American city. About 3/4 of all the U.S. states have a city called Springfield.

My company has an office in Springfield, IL so I was down there doing some work back in January. I stated that joke and got no reaction. I never saw one thing in Springfield that referenced itself to The Simpsons.
I'm sure there's the same fans for the show there that there is here and everywhere else.
