A good source of first-hand accounts and analyses of the French role would be electronic databases which contain thousands of articles from magazines, newspapers, professional journals, and even transcripts from radio programs and television. Also check the PBS.org site--and the archives of shows such as Frontline(think they did a feature). Sometimes these, as well as the internet site for discovery, Nova, and History channel will provide excellent links to articles and/or other websites.

There's a new book out, a memoir, written by a woman wih the title of something like "last survivor" or "last witness"--I found it in the new non- fiction section of my pub. library. Go to the online version of your public libary's catalogue. Also, most libraries allow you to access(with a library card no.) their electronic databases. There are many to chose from. Wilson Omni and Big ChalkE are good ones.

As I recall, the French officials tended to support(covertly or not) the French-speaking tribes and although fully aware of where this whole thing was headed, did nothing to stop it, to turn down the rhetoric.

But this is not French-bashing. It is also important to consider the role of "Doctors without Borders" in this and other global humanitarian crises.

You may want to check out the French Foreign Legion Website I used it to research Dien Bien Phu and they may had a role in Rwanda because they were used frequently in Africa Notably in Zaire
so they had contact with Hutu and Tutsi tribes when they were conducting operations in Katanga Province when it tried to breakaway during the cold war.
