How far can a hay truck go before it's empty?

Whenever I see a truck on the road carrying hay, small pieces are constantly falling off. So I wonder how far a hay truck can go before it's completely empty.

I guess that depends on whether or not it is hijacked by starving horses before it reaches it's destination!
