DSL is compatible with most operating systems as far back as 98SE. It runs better on XP though.

so you have a dsl modem, and that probably has a static ip address. If you plug your computer directly into the modem you will need to know that address.

however you should be using a router, in order to help protect yourself against outside intrusion. You have the router supply your computer with an ip address on the fly. --This is called DHCP. You need to find and check the box that says you want to connect to the internet over your LAN.

Then just open your browser. Any requests you send to the internet will go to the router using the ip address the router has assigned you. Then the router will send your request out to internet with the static ip address assigned to you by Yahoo. On the return trip these steps will be reversed.

Just plug your DSL router in and open IE it'll hook right up
