Ok, so I put in my sims 2 "game disk" in my pc and the sims 2 title comes up, but does nothing more, about a minute or 2 later I get a prompt telling me to insert the correct disk and to press ok and restart the program. I did that again and got the same thing. So I now have uninstalled the game thinking maybe if I reinstall it, it might work, but now when I put in the disk, NOTHING comes up, I hear the pc working but nothing happens. I tried opening it up through the "run" option on my start menu and it freezes up. Is this a problem with me pc or my disk? And how do I fix it?

Have you played the game on the same machine before?
If not, your problems may have to do with the machine. The manual for the game suggests for less optimal machines, that other programs be turned off, and gives some instruction on that.

You could test your computer (in the black box, pick The Sims 2)

On first appearance you may have all the specifications for the game, but the test will let you know if you are actually up to par.

If all the components 'just' barely pass, your machine probably needs upgrades.

Try rebooting, and then running the test just in case a 'terminate stay resident' program is in some 'crashed' mode and is messing stuff up.

When I troubleshoot a program (using XP SP2) I bring up the ctrl-alt-del to see which processes are taking up resources. The bigger numbered ones are sometimes 'stuck' for some reason. If CPU is running at 100%, that means your machine is struggling with something. CPU Usage will normally be below 10% and the Processes "Mem Usage" will help you diagnose what is hogging your processor. (click mem usage to bring the high numbers to the top)

If your machine is below par, then the test will let you know what to upgrade. If a lot of things need upgrading, sometimes its cheaper to get another machine. :( good luck
