i understand it's supposed to be the best night of highschooler's life but people pay so much like for limos what do you need a limo for, what's wrong with a regular car or some will probably pay hundreds probably thousands for a suit or dress they're only going to wear once in their life. i'm a sophomore and even though i want to go to prom my senior year i just think things are too expensive and if they are like that now things are going to become more expensive in the future.

People are competing with each other, mostly. They are showing off, and so are their parents, who want everyone to know they can afford all of that, even if they can't. I'd recommend going low cost for as much as possible. Skip the limo, buy a second hand dress, rent the regular, standard issue tux, and give your girl a single rose instead of an expensive corsage. Encourage your friends to do the same.

a lotta people just think that's what they're supposed to do. Also they place too much importance on one night, thinking that it will be very meaningful and memorable, when in reality it usually ends up being fun but not the be all end all of your highschool career.
I think a lot of people also get competative and want to show up their friends or whoever.
prom is what you make of it, regardless of how much you spend.

My whole prom (inluding my ticket, my date's ticket, afterglow tickets, cedar point, my dress, shoes, and hairstyle) all came to about $130, which is nothing compared to what everyone else paid, and I was the best looking girl there. No joke, we looked amazing.
