Ethics and integrity are not just important to leadership, they are necessary! Part of being a leader is being able to stand as a model for all those under your leadership. They should be able to trust you and know that you are what you teach. In order for people to trust a leader they have to know that the leader is trustworthy. That would imply that a leader would have to have integrity.

Without being ethical a leader would not hesitate to lie, manipulate, or take advantage of you. So a leader must be ethical as well. A true leader must not demand respect but command it. A leader can not do so if he or she is not ethical and have integrity.

In reference to psyengine2003's statement. Hitler was not a good leader. His people did not trust him. His leadership was destined to failure because people did not follow him out of respect. (he demanded it rather than commanded it) They followed him out of fear. That is a house of cards that is destined to fall. He was not a leader but a dictator.

Ethics and integrity are very important to be a good leader. A leader leads by example, which is a very basic principle in supervision and leadership. A supervisor/leader who is frequently late cannot expect subordinates to be on time.

Yes, for effective leadership. It would be difficult to trust a person with no integrity.

Were they important to Hitler? I think you want something better than 'good leadership' mellow head.
