I think we over estimate our existance on this planet and in this context by a million light years. Global warming/pollution/human technology and philosophy blergh blerh blarg......Do you really think we will leave an imprint that matters in the Bigger Picture,Good or Bad?

Well even if planet earth vanished and indeed left a void as you ask .....what would it be a void in? The universe's infinite reaches? Our planet earth could, in real terms, be nothing more than a speck of the universe's horizon right now and as such, even if earth exploded to smithereens, it would just be a glowing speck to everything around it. We ask this question because as humans our thinking is important ... that is all we have to do every day .... but take away the animal that thinks and percieves ... and you have the true meaning of the world of nothing. For nothing matters ... only humans make it so. But there again ... what can possibly exist that outstretches the human mind? Higher intelligence? You bet! Spooky eh?

We've forever shaped the physical face of the world. We've covered most of our world with our civilizations, wiped out species. We've at least created a more comfortable lives for ourselves and hopefully will spread the good thats come from our technology to the rest of the world Technology may end up creating a new race...cloning, other forms of bio-technology, artificial intelligence, etc. Philosophy perhaps one day will actually achieve something, some form of enlightenment allowing philosophy to finally reach the masses, where it won't be just a useless thing intelectuals do. I think there's hope but at this point were just another animal living on the planet earth.

How big is the bigger picture. I think we will impact more than this planet and possibly this solar system. We are, after all, survivors even if we do make it hard for ourselves sometimes.

In the long run, though, everything has an end and some other life will pick up baton and probably make all the same mistakes. As Mark Twain said 'History doesn't repeat itself but it does rhyme.'

That matters, yes. We are an example that would stay long after the human race is gone (if it is ever gone), purely because of our crafts/manipulation of the environment. This is bound to be of massive interest to any future societies, the same as anything ancient is massively researched by us. If we discovered evidence of aliens, that would receive a lot of interest also. If we were discovered by aliens, we would be of immense interest to them.
We have also experimented with nuclear physics and successfully controlled that. The 'big picture' surely means the fundamental structure of matter, so yes we have taken things VERY far. And 'after' the big bang there is no big picture at all.

No i really dont. Eventually our planets just going to dry up any way, and at this rate, its really not to far away. Because once were gone, we go to our heaven or hell, what ever you believe, and nothing is left. I do believe we make a spritual imprint, but on the bigger picture of the universe....how could we?

I like to think that we are just tenants on this planet. When mother nature is fed up with us fu***ng up her coat she'll evict us. Just like any landlord would do!
So our imprint if any will only be a bad one. What imprint did the last tenants leave? (Jurassic) We only know the blood and gore

It won't be long before we get our eviction notices served....unless we stop the partying she'll be putting up the vacancies sign!!!

Yes, at least until the big bang comes again. We don't live in the universe, we are part of it. Every molecule we move, everyone we touch, every penny we spend impacts others.
you are one of a kind moving through time, influencing everything in your way. You are as important to the fabric of living as any other thing in the universe. Without you, who knows how many things would be different.

What ever we do ourselves and our environment, the planet as an ecosystem will be fine. Were we to become extinct immediately, though, our mark would be left on the earth for a long, long time.

i believe if there are others out there in the universe, whenever they decide to drop on by and see what we've done to the place they'll go...........blech!! kind of like when you see a house decked out in 70's styling? our imprint will be somehwat noticeable but negligible overall. with all our advancements and technology we still cannot overcome our greatest foes.....ourselves.

Well, if we left no imprint, that would be a pretty big imprint.
