Is there any information/websites/books on the topic of this. For example, lets say a father is always present, but was never there for the daughter emotionally and how the daughter as an adult chooses men with specific traits? thats just an example though.

There is therapy.

Everyone has had some issue in their lives. If you recognize that you are dating the "wrong" kind of people, it is your responsibility as an adult to change that behavior.

I'd suggest using a search engine and look for a psychologist named John Bowlby. He came up with a theory called the internal working model of attachment that speaks about the relationship between parent-child relationships and later adult romantic relationships.
