follow your top radiator hose to where it goes into the engine block. remove hose clamp and then remove the hose. lossen the bolts holding the inlet onto the block. the thermostat will be located under the inlet housing. remove the old themostat. insert new thermostat, makke sure housing is clean, remove old gasket and sealant. put new gasket in place and use sealant. put housing back in place and tighten. reconnect hose and clamp

follow the top hose from the radiator back to the engine...theres a water inlet on the block should be 2 bolts holding it down...loosen them take the water inlet off the thermostat is underneath...its round with a paper looking diaphram..pop it out, scrape the old gasket off the edge of the block & the inlet permatex the new gasket to the inlet ..put the new thermostat in permatex the edge around the thermastat put the inlet back on tighten the bolts down...

i got a 1988 olds delta 88 with a 3800 engine and i changed mine and if you are going to change it ,follow the top radiator hose and there is the goose neck and it only has 1 bolt in it,i know it sounds impossible but mine only has 1 bolt,and if yours a 3.8 it has 1 bolt.by the way make sure you change the o-ring too.

ALSO...when installing the new T-stat, make sure you have spring side down into intake manifold.
