If you really want to stay in the downtown area I would look at bed & breakfasts in Centertown or near the University of Ottawa. That way you're within a stone's throw of the Byward Market (lots of small shops and nifty terrace bars and restaurants), the National Gallery of Arts (don't miss the outrageous painting "The Voice of Fire", which cost the museum millions and is actually a blue stripe surrounded by two red stripes). Also to see, the Rideau Falls (on Sussex Drive, not too far from the Governor General's residence where you can see the changing of the guard).

Another good option is to take a room at a hotel near the St.Laurent shopping centre, in East Ottawa (look at the CHIMO hotel or the Travelodge). At the shopping mall, you can buy a day pass for the local transit system, OC Transpo - route 95 takes you downtown to Parliament Hill in 15 minutes!

I wish I could tell you what hotel I stayed at while in Ottawa but I completely forget.

Search for good downtown hotels. You can get CAA/AAA discounts at some of them and they are wonderful b/c you can walk EVERYWHERE. It's perfect. Be sure to check out the little restaurants by parliament hill. Very good. Happy vacation, sorry I couldn't help out more :(

Parking downtown is costly only like all city. I propose you examine the parking plenty scarred around the city, under city corridor, international replace plaza, yet i do no longer think of they are any greater much less high priced.
