Love is not unconditional. Love of your spouse is always conditional upon many things, finances, friends, compatability. I've seen many relationships where two people are extremely happy together, but insecurities, vanities, all of the little quirks of human nature end up making the two miserable even though they really do, or did enjoy eachother. I think true love is just when two people meet in the way above and our lucky enough to not have their relationship strained by external factors. Love is not some magical thing, relationships take work, care, and a little luck. But the romantic notion of true love is something everyone likes to think exists, so you can be hopeful I guess. Though I suspect most partners who claim to love you will let you know if you ask, that their love is indeed conditional upon monogamy.

Pure love is unconditional, people do not think that the love they have for a spouse is conditional but it is. I believe that the only unconditional love that is pure is for your children, since no matter what they say or do, you may cut them out of your life, and disapprove of something that they have done, but, you will not stop loving them.
You choose to love only your spouse in the way that binds you as husband and wife.

Unconditional means you don't put conditions, you don't ask anything in return. So you can love the whole of mankind. Now what was your question again?

There is no such thing as unconditional love but the closest thing to it is the love of a mother for her child.

Only 'Agape' love is unconditional. Not eros or phelao. Agape is the kind of love God has for us. a person can love, in that respect, many people.

There's a whole lifestyle for people who want more than 1. It's called polygamy.

Social standards define acceptable behaviour.
Sad but true.
Unconditional love doesn't mean until you make me angry, hurt my feelings, do something I don't agree with, or realize you are capable of loving more than one person.

You are confusing love with matrimony. Rarely do they mesh completely.
