well assuming it's japanese top three honda, yamaha, suzuki. Fact is these engines are built like a ton of bricks. Though because of there use people tend to abuse them more. With proper oil changes regular tune ups you can put 80 miles on the bike without any magor work done. I put 20,000 miles on my cbr with no problems. Keep in mind I ride daily through LA traffic at the rate of a hundred miles a day.

Equations:
speed = less life = higher cost per mile,
slower = longer life = less cost per mile
My sister's ex-b/f had a VFR750 with 80,000 miles on it, I've seen an early GSXR600 with 56,000 miles on it. Maintain and ride it right and it will last a long time. Otherwise it will quickly be in the junkyard from bad riding or no maintenance....

The official "life expectancy" of any new motorcycle, acording to most manufacturers, is 18,000 to 20,000 miles.
This is, of course, as ridiculous as the 1-year warranty they give you, and is a good reason to buy a good used bike. The warranty is gone anyway, and you can save a lot of $$$.

I have 24,000 Miles on my 2003 ZX6RR. I commute every day to work, about a 50 mile round trip.

The way they ride them around here, I'm surprised if they last a hundred miles.

MY 2005 gsxr600 has 10k... I read it was designed to die at 20k, but that's garbage. It's all about how you take care of it. Change the oil alot and all that.....
