This really should be an agreement between you and the father. If you two plan on getting married then I say sure.....give the baby his last name. (It will save you some money and you wont have to change it later). But if not, then I would say let the father be listed on the birth certificate and let the baby have your last name. But like I said before, its really up to the both of you. See how the father feels about this.

Both my children have my last name because it is easier and cheaper to change a baby's last name to a fathers name then it is to change it back to your name from his. If he loves you and has plans to marry you then he will understand. If he doesn't then maybe your plans for the future aren't his. At 17 My dreams were a whole lot different then the reality that I live today.

I had my first child right out of high school. I was not with him.......... ( date rape ) .. But if you are going to have a relationship with this man then yes give the baby his last name... It will be 1 less thing ya have to do after you are married. Ps dont get married just because of a child either. You have to love him unconditionalllllllllyyy. Best of luck to you and you new little family. kit

I would give the baby your last name. He can still be listed on the birth certificate as the father. If you two get married, then change the baby's name!

And Congrats!

He can be listed as the father, but you don't have to give the baby his last name. I think your friends are right in this case.

My aunt is'nt married, and she has 2 kids. She names them after there father because the kids are going to know there father for the rest of there lives any way.

If you're not married, don't give the kid his last name. One of my cousins did that with her daughter (gave the kid the father's last name), then he left her high and dry. I would give the kid your last name because it's hard to change it later on.

If you know for a fact that he is the father than why not? If you and him not together don't let your child suffer b/c you'll relationship went sour.

yes, but you can hyphen the last name. in my case my daughter has my last name as her middle name and his last name.. but i use MINE ... i was 21 when i had her, we didn't get married and i'm now 30 and it's easier to use my last name for the both of us. Makes things less ackward for her in school and the kids wondering why??? you know
