(to) IMPUGN is a formal word and a transitive verb. Someone who impugns something (such as someone's character, qualities or reputation) criticizes it, especially by expressing doubt about it. Pronunciation - im-pyOOn. Synonym - (to) question. Example - Politicians often attempt to impugn the reputation of their opponents. There was no ground to impugn the sincerity of their belief.

Do you mean "impugn"? That is a verb, meaning to attack as false or questionable, as in to impugn one's reputation.

I didn't know that there even is a word "impune" (which would be pronounced the same way), but Websters' Revised Unabridged Dictionary defines it as an adjective meaning "unpunished." I just learned something new!

But I am guessing that you really meant impugn.
