I have a turtle who escaped days ago and found it again. If I would have left it there it could have been squashed by my moronic neighbors so I am planning to release her in the future, in the stream that is next to my house, but I have my concerns.
What do they eat in their natural habitat?
Is a turtle that belongs in fresh water.

Sorry but I don't live in the United States, people don't really care about their pets here, so reptiles sanctuaries don't exist.
Anyway I find gigantic turtles all the time behind my backyard, so if they are growing and placing eggs, then the ecosystem that surrounds my house isn't bad.

No, my turtle is a common freshwater turtle. The one that is shown in pictures of turtle food containers. It isn't a Yellow-spotted Amazon River turtle.
Is kind of gray-dark-brown turtle.

they eat small fish, crickets and greens( grass leaves ect.) actuall people are mistaken when they think that turtles are only plant eaters, my sons turtle will almost jump for joy when we place in a few crickets for her. and its a know fact that they will eat almost anything that lives in its enviroment if it can catch it, and believe it or not, turtles arnt slow when it comes feeding time. hope that this helps. and good luck with your turtle.

That's not a great idea, unless this was a wild turtle that you captured. Just because it's a River Turtle doesn't mean you live next to the right kind of river. Releasing foreign species into an eco system can do a lot of damage, not to mention your turtle will be lonely. Most metropolitan areas have reptile sanctuaries for pets in this exact same situation, where they can either find it a new home, or release it into a more native habitat. Good luck!

they eat native vegetation and bugs. If you got the turtle in your area don't really be concerned with it finding food it has instincts.

Aquatic animals. Small ducks, young geese, some dead animals.
Depends on it's size.
Like all domesticated pets, it may not know how to "hunt", but may learn from others.
I have see them in lakes.
