I thought that we are suppose to be free to do whatever we want with our bodies - such as abort babies in accordance with women's rights.

Well Don it is like this. Suicide is illegal in most states as well as assisting suicide.

When police fire and rescue people arrive their only goal is to save life and not wonder why the person wants to end it. It is not a moral issue at that juncture it is there job.

Most people that want to kill themselves are not in the right frame of mind at the time to make a rational decision so public servants have to step in and make a decision for them.

If they are serious about it they will find a way to complete the task.

Sometimes the act is just a cry for help.

Because it IS against the law to commit suicide; it's just hard to issue a penalty afterwards. That's why the charge is "attempted suicide."

well it isn't against the law to commit suicide but it is against the law to attempt suicide. obviously u can't prosecute someone who has committed suicide. however, it is against GOD's law to commit suicide and is unforgivable. it states in the Bible that in order for a sin to be forgiven u have to ask for forgiveness. if u commit suicide u are not alive to ask for forgiveness therefore u cannot be forgiven. u can't ask for forgiveness before the act then do it because then u wouldn't truly be sorry or u wouldn't have done it in the first place. therefore suicide is an unforgiveable sin.

Honestly, what are they going to do to you if you successfully commit suicide anyway? There is no way to prevent it. It's against some religions but I don't know that it's against the law, and if it is, it probably varies by state. Assisted suicide is illegal because it then becomes more like homocide, ie., Kevorkian.

commiting suicide is against the law, that is, if you live. That's attempt to commit. Which is the same thing if you try to jump from a tall bridge.
They're both illegal.

Police and rescue responses are not limited only to events that are illegal. They respond to events where public safety is threatened, whether it's the individual or others around him/her. It's a life saving effort, rather than an enforcement goal.

If suicide were illegal, how does one prosecute a dead body? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Do you suppose first responders have a moral obligation to try and dissuade a suicide? Hmmmmmmmmm.
