There is 2 types of "al"

1- pronounced "AL" and means the
2- Pronounced "A'AL" and comes before some family names such as the saudi royal family Al Saud...
This one means = the family of.....

Also you would always find BIN
like bin laden
this means the son of....

bin laden = son of laden
bin taleb = son of taleb....
