the best way to keep away spiders is one bird feeder, one humming bird feeder and a WHOLE LOT of bird houses
(you don't have to keep refilling the humming bird feeder with the stuff you buy, water and a tablespoon of sugar works just as well)

for the time being, use your home remedy, put out the houses & feeders & you will have no spider problem (plus birds to watch) next summer!

diatomaceous earth. It's made up of almost microscopic animal exoskeletons. Dust with DE (diatomaceous earth). The remnants of the exoskeletons wind up scratching and cutting the exoskeleton of the spider causing them to dehydrate. There is also a trace of pyrethrins in DE, it's a toxin.

I had simular problem, ant and flying insect spray from the dollar store works pretty dam good.
