Hell no, I love the Yankees, A LOT. But have you seen the numbers David Ortiz is putting up? I hate the Red Sox and still can't argue with 110 RBI's by August. The man is sick good. The only thing wrong with him is he isn't wearing pinstripes.

Georgie Porgie, to be fair, Alex Rodriguez won the MVP award a few years ago on a last-place Texas Rangers team, so you do not have to win your division to win the MVP honors.
I know that some voters won't vote for Ortiz because he's a DH, but I don't buy the argument that you have to play defense to contribute to your team's success. In fact, the fact that he doesn't play defense probably contributes to his team's success much more. That said, the fact that Manny Ramirez is on such a tear lately means that pro-Boston votes may split between the two sluggers (that happened two years ago). I hate the Yankees as much as the next guy, but a Jeter MVP would be well deserved. Don't rule out some of these spectacular pitching performances, though.

No.
Very rarely does someone with less than 30 home runs and 120 rbis win the MVP. Jeter is good, but he does not particularly stand out as the exceptional star on a team with names like Randy Johnson, Johnny Damon or Alex Rodriguez. If he had these numbers on a team like Minnesota or Oakland, he'd have a better chance for an MVP.

i do no longer think of the two certainly one of them could have won the MVP. The electorate have been given it stunning in 2006 because of the fact Justin Morneau substitute into greater effectual to the Twins than Jeter to the Yankees. This twelve months the electorate have been given it incorrect. i in my view experience they chosen Pedroia because of the fact his 5 video games hitting 4th at the back of David Ortiz substitute into blown way out of share by applying the folk at ESPN and SportsCenter. Francisco Rodriguez substitute into needless to say the main useful participant on the team with the main wins and could have been provided the MVP. positioned somebody like Scott Shields accessible as nearer and hazard is a minimum of 15 to 20 of those sixty two saves are not wins for the Angels and the Angels omit the playoffs.

Why are people considering Jeter when Carlos Guillen is playing just as well on the most improved team in the league? My vote would go to Guillen before Jeter.

Jeter's a good candidate. I'd vote for Ortiz...he's carrying Boston right now, while Jeter's got more help. Jeter will get some extra votes playing in New York. Either would be a good choice.

I'm a Yankees fan, and I love Jeter. But this year, especially if the Twins make the post season, it would be hard to pass up Joe Mauer. He's offensively successful on his own, and his mastery behind the plate is a big part of Lirianos success.

Barring any injuries...Derek Jeter would be a strong contender for the MVP award.
It's still a little early. Let's play out the season and see what fully develops.....

While I think he is having a great year and is deserving of such an honor, this year there are two others more deserving: David Ortiz or Jonathan Papelbon, both of the Boston Red Sox. Ortiz has proved to be the best clutch hitter in baseball, and Papelbon has 30 saves already, more than any other rookie in MLB history. Either is deserving.
