I mean... all of our money just goes to funding **** we don't want anyway. Like NASA, wars, welfare.... the list goes on. Any thoughts?

I agree with two of the above. It not taxes in general that is the problem. It's what we are spending the money on.

Taxes pay for roads, highways, law enforcement, fire protection, parks, college loans to educate, schools, etc.

What we need to focus on is stopping the ridiculous waste of tax money on pointless programs (i.e. welfare -needs to be reformed, the big dig, etc.) and others that cogressional members "sneak in" to pad their resume with their base.

BTW - NASA's budget is 0.7% of the federal budget overall.

Its refreshing to see someone else thinks NASA is a waste of space. While NASA is responsible for a lot of products, these products would have been produced far more cheaply anyway and probably quicker if the money wasn't flushed down the toilet on pointless things like landing on the moon, mars or the absurd Hubble telescope. We should have more control over taxes but they are needed to a degree. What we really need is proper costings of products, so they are based on real value, not whatever some parasite feels like charging to pay for their Lear Jet.

Well, NASA was responsible for coming up with the technology for cell phones, pace makers, freeze-dried foods, and dozens of other things we use every week. Besides, their budget is incredibly tiny compared to the rest of what gets funded.

I'd be happy eliminating about 80% of the federal budget. Leave enough to pay for interstate roads, federal courts and law enforcement, the military (home deployment only, except for emergencies), and some minimal amount of research that would otherwise either not get funded or be so controlled by private companies that people would not see the benefits for decades.

Some states don't have income tax: Washington
And I know that Portland and Maine don't have sales tax.

I lived in New York, Ireland, and California...New York and California, you can't figure out where the taxes are going. Ireland has socialized programs: housing, schooling/daycare, and medicine.

I wish we had at least socialized medicine so that people don't have to go bankrupt to get medical attention.

What am I saying this is a capitalist society and everyone for themselves.

We need to get out of socialism, but we can't cut taxes altogether. I am in support of cutting the withholding of income tax. If everyone got a bill from the government at the end of the fiscal year, instead of never getting to hold that money, we would very quickly find many people would want to abandon socialism.

No, I believe that taxes should be increased. In all seriousness, I think that our taxes are aimed at the wrong programs, influenced by politicians trying to make points in their contituencies. If we paid 50% of our income in taxes, but we would never have to worry about healthcare, all education through college would be paid for, the roads would always be in perfect condition, if you lost your job the goverment would really help you and your family, help to re-educate you and help to find you a good job. I think we would be better off as a nation.

The Boston Tea Party. They have a web site, you should check it out -- it's a new offshoot of the Libertarian Party. Very cool.

Im patriotic, I pay my taxes and don't complain about it. To answer your question, the self-serving greedy republicans want to abolish taxes. Their greed is unparallelled.
