Cults such as The Branch Dividian, Jim Jones, and The Nuwaubian Nation of Moors? How do people give up such mind control?

In my studies of psychology, I have run across the explanation that most people who join cults have not developed a mind of their own, and do not have good sense of boundaries, and life direction. this explanation says that this happens often when the person comes from a background that is very strict and controlling. The parents are controlling and the person has been expected to simply obey without thinking, and so it is easier for them to go from one such situation to another if the leader has 'charisma'. For instance, the child of a military style family, old fashioned Catholics, People who come from backgrounds in which they have developed a sense of values, judgement, boundaries, and direction are less likely to become dependent on a cult leader.

I believe the cults prey on those who have low self-esteem and are unsure about the direction their lives should take. The cults make all the decisions for them, and some people like that... because then it's not their fault if it's the wrong course of action.

Most peopel who are drawn into cults are looking for the comfort of a family.A cult or extreme religious group provides what they are missing.

The human mind is weak, some people just fell for it like they believe any other religion and soon begin to pump part of their salary into it, they become fanatics and do anything their "advisers" tell them to do, that's why you see the birth of all these sects and cults.

They're feeble minded to begin with, making them vulnerable for any old line of crap that is told to them.
