I'm a bit of a psycho buff, too.
I like to read accounts of mental illness -- first person accounts, books of stories by therapists and special ed teachers. (They read like novels, though some are kinda trashy.)
Myself, I'm very fond of Carl Rogers and Virginia Axline (Dibs: In Search of Self, and Play Therapy are great books).
If you have a university near you, go to bookstores near them, especially used bookstores. Go the the psych section and start looking at books, to see what grabs you.
Remember, though, psych is just one area that asks why people do what they do. You should keep your perspective broad by including sociology and anthropology and other fields.
Oh! and The Compassionate Beast is a really great book, too. I THINK it's by Morton Hunt.
Stephen Pinker writes very readable books on cognitive psych.
Enjoy!

Well that depends...psychology is a very broad field of study...you could choose something light like 'psychology for dummies'. It will cover a wide range of interests and then you could branch off to what interests you most. There are a million books out there and you gotta start somewhere...Good luck.

To get a variety of different topics related to psychology... Id suggest subscribing to a Psychology magazine.. like Psychology Today. Find out what areas interest you and then you can get books related to that specific topic.

Let's talk about this. How do you really feel? Do you feel pressured into getting more involved with psychology? Is it because you're mother wasn't there for you to help you make this decision?
