We should certainly get rid of the electoral college, without which we would now have a civilized person for president. But I don't think it is a good idea to make it mandatory to vote. Many people are too lazy or too dumb to read about or understand the issues. Do you really want them voting just because the law says they must? That law would not and could not force them to vote intelligently, so they would vote stupidly.

Suggestion. Start a political movement to rid the country of the electoral vote system. See how far it will go in about 30 of the 50 states. (hint. Nowhere).
Since you need 38 states, that leaves you about 18 short.
BTW: that little thing above the right corner is called a spell checker. If you use it more people will take you seriously. This is especially true of words that are key to understanding your question or point of view.
'mandintory' = mandatory 'electorial' = electoral

What would be the point in trying to force people to vote for people they have no respect for! The American People don't vote because the politicians with the necessary funds to get elected are already bought and paid lackies that are berift of any merit or virtue, or will be otherwise compromised. Force someone to vote only wins votes for Mickey Mouse!
The Electoral Collage no longer serves it's origional function either sense they always vote the Party Line instead of seriously considering what is in the best interest of the nation as a whole!
Money has become the American Political modus! How do you spend yours?

That's a good question. On the plus side everyone would vote. On con side people who just don't care would be voting. If they didn't care they probably wouldn't take the time to find out info on the issues and would vote for just anyone. I'm not sure which is scarier. Having a small percentage of the population deciding everything for everybody or having people who really don't give a darn helping choose. Hmmm.....

No. In my opinion, unless you're educated on the candidates/prop.'s and what they're offering you should not vote on them. Now, I'm not saying that unless you're educated you shouldn't vote (because I know someone will read it wrong and come to that conclusion). All I'm saying is that you shouldn't vote if you don't know what you're voting on. As for the electoral and popular votes: I believe they are an important part to our governmental system and disassembling either would be detrimental to our government. So in short, we would be worse off if it was mandatory to vote.

I don't think mandatory would be a good idea, but I'm not so sure about the popular vote. I think that might be better.
