Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years that married couples should welcome God's gift of children and, therefore, artificial birth control was against the will of God.

Abstinence and the rhythm method are acceptable means of natural birth control.

With love in Christ.

I'm not Catholic, so I cannot answer your question with religious certainty, in accordance to your specific faith. However, I am Baptist.. and while my thoughts on this topic cannot be backed with scripture (nor have I heard/read any that do back the claim of birth control being a sin...) I will try to share how I feel about it, and hopefully it will be of some help to you.

I am 25 years old, and have been on birth control off and on since I was about 16 or so. When I started it, it was to relieve some pretty bad symptoms having to do with my monthly cycle. It helped a lot. I took it for a while, and then stopped when I got married. I only started taking it again (Depo Provera shot, to be exact) a few weeks after my son was born, because I knew that we were (and still are) in no position financially nor spacewise, to care for another child in the way we would need and desire to. I do want more children one day, but now is not the right time for that to happen. My husband and I are both very much in agreement on this issue.

Personally, I do not believe that birth control is a sin. If I am correct, the idea that it is a sin (as many religions/faiths see it) stems from it being seen as a likeness to abortion (which I absolutely see as a sin.. and do not support it in any case). But the thing is, in order for there to be an "abortion" one would have to become pregnant in the first place (sperm meeting the egg.. etc.) and when taking birth control, that does not happen (well, it CAN happen, but it is fairly rare) so I just do not agree with the idea of it being the same in any sense.

Women take birth control for many different reasons, not just for preventing pregnancy. I make the personal choice to use it until we are ready for another child, and I see nothing wrong or sinful about that.. not in any way, shape or form.

But like I said, I cannot back up my thoughts with scripture. This is simply just my own personal opinion.

I hope I was able to be of some help to you.

Take care and God bless!

Birth control is not a sin. Just because it's doctrine, that doesn't mean it's law or biblical. Some doctrines are created (with good intention) to enable people to live within certain parameters of God's purpose but do not supersede His Word. Instead of teaching birth control and proper practices for family planning, some religious institution teach doctrine. It's a whole lot easier than truth.

Birth control is kind of like going to R rated movies....you shouldnt do it, it technically is a sin, but everyone else is doing it, and hey, what else you gonna do on a Friday nite?

I'm not catholic. I don't think it's a sin. You should only have children when you are ready. That is why there is so much abortion and children without homes because they don't use birthcontrol.

it is a sin because if you look in the bible sex is for procreation only and the church sees it as birth control only leads to sin because of sex before marriage and stuff
