Why? Because gays don't reproduce? Fair question. Actually, I know lesbians who have had children (and the kids are not gay, BTW, so it may not be a heritable characteristic).

Historically, from as far back as there are records, about 10% of any given population has been gay. Homosexuality has also been reported in populations of animals and birds. I have never read an explanation and don't think there is one, yet, but it seems to be a quirk that appears predictably and universally.

I don't think so. Eye and hair color, race, certain diseases, and disabilities are biological and I don't see any of those things "dying out" soon.
